Certification Levels
Trainer Certification is awarded upon the successful completion of a full 8-hour course (Arm Control/Escort System (ACES), Weapon Ground Defense and Disarming, Knife Defense/Disarming, OC Aerosol Control/Defense or Power Handcuffing) or 16-hour course (Handgun/Long Gun Retention & Disarming, Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint (LVNR®) or Control/Defensive Tactics). With this certification, a trainer may teach the system(s) in which he/she is certified to his/her agency's officers.
Advanced Trainer Certification is awarded upon the successful completion of a second 8- or 16-hour course. It allows trainers to teach the course(s) in which he/she is certified to his/her agency's officers and to outside agency officers when assigned by or if allowed by his/her agency.
Agency Certified Certification Trainer (ACCT) Certification is awarded to selected trainers with a minimum of 24 hours of instruction in any single 8 hour NLETC system or 48 hours of instruction in any 16 hour NLETC system. It is contingent upon agency approval, a recommendation from a National Trainer, experience as a defensive tactics or martials arts instructor, and outstanding performance during training.
ACCT status allows a trainer to conduct Agency In-House Trainer certification training in the systems in which he/she is an ACCT certified trainer. The ACCT trainer's agency benefits from reduced travel and lodging costs, as well as reduced training and certification fees.
National Trainers serve as the advisory board for the NLETC and may certify in-agency or outside trainers to any level. They are responsible for coordinating training in their area with NLETC headquarters and their local ACCT trainers. |
