Popken, Thomas

Tom Popken is a Detective with the Dallas Police Department. He is currently assigned to the Narcotics Division working interdiction. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement and Sociology from Mankato State University in Minnesota. He has been with the Dallas Police Department since 1979, with 7 years as a Defensive Tactics Instructor at their Academy.

Tom has trained thousands of Officers from many different agencies including the FBI, Secret Service, and the Mexico City Police. Tom is certified in a wide variety of defensive tactics programs. In addition to being a National Trainer for the National Law Enforcement Training Center, he is also an International Instructor with Monadnock.

Tom is the Texas State Representative for the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers and has instructed at the yearly seminar. He is a former Officer of the Year with Dallas and Director of the Year with theDallas Police Association.
